Music

Music lies at the heart of our learning community and is a key factor flowing throughout every pupil’s learning journey.

A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievements.

It is our intention to provide every pupil with the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument with confidence by the times they leave Year 6. They will be taught by experts in their art, who will guide them through the steps of becoming a skilled musician. Through regular, positive, group-learning experiences – taught alongside baseline music theory – the children will explore musical curiosities. By teaching composition and performance, children will be encouraged to pursue individual interests and experiment with artistic, creative and personal expression.

Alongside the teaching of knowledge, skills and understanding within the subject, it is our aim to promote positive mental health and well-being in all pupils through the development of SMSC when listening and appraising selected pieces of music.
