Infant

022

Our Infant school is a happy and thriving Christian school, where children and adults work and flourish together in a rewarding atmosphere, underpinned by enthusiasm, encouragement and high expectations. We work hard to achieve success and are fully committed to the development of every child in partnership with parents and families and our church community.

Our school is a learning school – everybody involved in the life of the school is an active learner, providing our children with the very best education possible, where everyone feels valued, safe and happy to learn. We believe in a rich and diverse education that offers a wonderland of opportunities and experiences that instill in each pupil a lifelong love of learning.

Education on the current Infant and Nursery school site dates from 1850 and we currently have 285 pupils across early years foundation stage and key stage 1.

Throughout your child’s time at the infant school, phonics is taught daily following the Department of Education Letters and Sounds programme. The scheme develops both speaking and listening and equips your child with the skills to be a fluent reader. Our main reading scheme is Oxford Reading Tree, which is supplemented by books from other schemes such as New Way, Alphakids, Journeys, Ginn Reference, Four Seasons, Wide Range, Banana Books, Storychest and Pocket Books.

Enhanced by the strong partnership between parent/carer and teaching staff, our early years nursery and reception provision encourages your child to have a sense of belonging and ensures that they feel safe and happy.  Daily routines are followed within each setting so your child will develop confidence and independence at their pace, as they make friends and learn in our safe, engaging environment. This ensures your child is ‘school ready’ when aged 5 years they enter year 1.

Our key stage 1 provision builds on those skills developed in our early years foundation stage.  Children are introduced to the essential knowledge they need to be educated citizens as well as being encouraged to develop their own creativity and talents. In both year 1 and year 2 our curriculum provides exciting and stimulating lessons to promote our children’s knowledge, understanding and skills and most importantly to make learning fun!
